BRADENTON MAYOR AND COUNCIL

BRADENTON -- Bradenton Mayor Wayne Poston secured a fifth term Tuesday in a nonpartisan race against two challengers.

Poston won by a 53.8 percent against first-time candidates Warren Merriman, the city's former deputy police chief, and Eleuterio Salazar, community relations coordinator for a blood bank.

In a recent debate, Poston cited the popularity of the Riverwalk park, renovations at McKechnie Field and continuing private-sector investment in the Village of the Arts and downtown among reasons voters should support him. Merriman and Salazar insisted a change in leadership was overdue.

The mayoral job pays $61,836.

Voters also returned two incumbents to the City Council, a position that pays $31,725.

Gene Gallo, the former fire chief, secured a seventh term. …
