Bevo & Hook em Horns although the originial mascot for the University of texas was an american pit bull terrier named Pig, the longhorn steer has filled that role since 1916. it made its debut during the halftime of a thanksgiving game against texas a&m. the score was tied, but texas scored two touchdowns in the second half to win the game 21-7. originally named bo the name became bevo, although its not entirely clear how that happened. the current mascot is bevo Xv. bevo Xiv died last october after serving for 11 years. the hook em horns hand gesture began in 1955 before a big game against texas christian University. inspired by texas a&ms gig em gesture against the horned frogs, longhorn fans decided they needed their own hand sign. Ut cheerleaders presented the sign at a pep rally, and the rest, as they say, is history. …
