ROCHELLE PARK -- The neck-and-neck contest for a seat on the Township Committee won't be resolved until next week, when provisional ballots are expected to be counted.

Unofficial election results provided by the borough give challenger Michael D. Warren, a Democrat, a slight lead over incumbent Republican Kenneth J. Kovalcik.

Warren has 916 votes to Kovalcik's 901 in an updated count of ballots on Thursday, but the picture could change Wednesday, when provisional ballots are expected to be counted.

Ballots need vetting

A provisional ballot is issued to a voter whose qualifications to vote at the polls on Election Day are in question. Provisional ballots issued to voters on the day of an election must later be vetted and approved by election officials before they can be counted. …
