Paterson Man Guilty in 2014 Stabbings

A Paterson man was convicted by a jury on Thursday of two counts of attempted murder and other offenses related to stabbings in 2014 that left two men seriously wounded during an altercation following a game of pool, authorities said in a news release.

Ramon Martinez, 53, was found guilty of the offenses in Superior Court in Paterson after a trial that included testimony by his victims, Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes said.

The two victims, Alex Mena, 41, of Clifton and Daniel Aguilar, 30, of Newark, told a jury that they had been playing pool with Martinez on Sept. 13, 2014, when an argument broke out, Valdes said. The prosecutor said the victims testified that at some point Martinez walked across the street to his vehicle and returned. She said he then stabbed both men, causing "life-threatening injuries which required immediate medical attention. …
