The Carol R. Brown Creative Achievement Awards for 2016 have gone to Pittsburgh artists Yona Harvey and Tereneh Mosley, who each receive $15,000 from the Pittsburgh Foundation and the Heinz Endowments.

The Established Artist Award goes to Ms. Harvey, a professor in the University of Pittsburgh Writing Program and author of the poetry collection "Hemming the Water," winner of the Kate Tufts Discovery Award from Claremont Graduate University and finalist for the Hurston/Wright Award. Her entry into the Marvel comic book universe, the Black Panther spinoff "World of Wakanda," co-written with Roxane Gay, debuts this month.

Ms. Mosley, a fashion designer, entrepreneur and educator who grew up in Pittsburgh, will receive the Emerging Artist Award. She was a visiting scholar on global fashion at Yale-National University of Singapore College in 2013. That year, she launched her global eco-design collaboration with Olorgesailie Maasai Women Artisans of Kenya, incorporating indigenous adornment in contemporary textiles and apparel. …
