Nonprofit board training offered

The Gulf Coast Community Foundation is accepting applications for its inaugural Gulf Coast Board Institute, a governance training series for aspiring and experienced nonprofit board members.

The deadline for applying for the four-week Board Institute is Dec. 2. The first class is Jan. 20.

"We recently conducted a needs-assessment of our regional nonprofits, and it showed that educating and engaging board members to be more effective in their role is a critical priority," said Mark Pritchett, president and CEO of Gulf Coast Community Foundation.

The foundation will offer the Board Institute on a regular basis, selecting up to 25 applicants to participate in four half-day training sessions over four weeks, followed by three optional monthly peer-discussion meetings. The first series of classes are scheduled for Jan. 20 and 27 and Feb. 3 and 10.

The free classes will provide a comprehensive overview of nonprofit board governance. …
