2017 Budget Approved with No Tax Hike for Municipality Also Brings Back 'Adopt a Family'

Bethel Park council approved a budget that holds taxes steady in the municipality for 2017.

At their meeting Monday night, council members approved a $25,654,527 general fund budget that keeps the tax rate at 2.53 mills, or $253 per year for every $100,000 of assessed property value.

Although there will be no tax increase, the 2017 budget is slightly higher than the 2016 plan, which was $24,751,380.

In late June, the school board adopted a 2016-17 budget that held the line on taxes for the current school year.The $83.51 million budget keeps the property tax rate at 22.876 mills.

The spending plan total is $716,332 higher than last year, largely because of increased pension costs the district is required to pay.

Also Monday, council said the municipality's "adopt a family" program is returning this year for the holidays after a two-year hiatus. …
