After standing in line for lattes and Frappuccinos from Starbucks to fuel up, Karen Gross and Cami Giertz and at least eight teenagers had to make a game plan for Black Friday shopping on Thursday.

The gang drove in two cars from Alton to the St. Louis Galleria mall in Richmond Heights with high hopes of hitting some fan favorites. Unfortunately, many were closed.

This was a first for the group. They usually head to St. Clair Square in Fairview Heights, but this year that mall, like many others in the area, stayed closed on Thanksgiving.

In fact, the Galleria was one of only four malls to open on Thanksgiving at all. Two others were in Chesterfield and one in Alton. …
