WINTER FISHING

From now until spring the brackish portions of our local rivers, creeks and bayous become an excellent choice for anglers looking to do battle with some of the finest gamefish the Suncoast has to offer. Species such as snook, big jack crevalle, redfish and tarpon are moving inshore to deeper, more protected and warmer holes to while away the winter months.

Shorebound anglers and those with small craft such as kayaks,canoes and jon boats are able to get out and enjoy top-notch angling opportunities even when weather conditions are not ideal. Most all these inshore wintering species are also real suckers for artificial lures. Due to the darker, stained waters with a lot of shoreline cover, top-water lures really shine and can be highly productive even at mid-day when the sun works its magic by warming the surface waters on cold days. …
