1827A contract was approved to construct the aqueduct to carry the Pennsylvania Canal over the Allegheny River to the city.

1947 The Pittsburgh Board of Education adopted an $18 million budget, an increase of $3 million over 1947, and levied a new $5-a- year head tax on all city residents over 21.

1958 The sale of Forbes Field to the University of Pittsburgh is approved; the Pirates will stay on for five years until a new North Side stadium is built. In reality, the Pirates stayed on for 12 years, until 1970, when the new stadium opened.
