The minor protests in Miami applauding the death of Fidel Castro and biased news reporting have not only provided a false narrative of present-day Cuba but have also distorted the historic contribution of a revolutionary leader.

I choose to join millions of people in Cuba and around the globe who mourn his passing and reflect a more accurate and objective account of the impact that Fidel had during his 90 years. Fidel's unique historical perspective, his revolutionary fervor and contribution, his solidarity with people around the globe, inspired millions to organize and fight for a more just and peaceful society.

From the diffident views of conservatives to outspoken progressives, a majority of our citizens support efforts to normalize relations with the people and government of Cuba. In fact, we have voted in the hundreds of thousands over the years by visiting Cuba despite the illegal and immoral blockade and difficult travel ban. …
