CASE 76 * When Mrs. H lost her husband in May, she became a single parent to four children ages 7 to 15 with another on the way. She had a full-time factory job but it required her to be on her feet for her entire shift. Due to pregnancy complications, she can't do that and her employer couldn't make accommodations, citing safety concerns. Mrs. H is used to being the one who helps others. But while she looks for other work, she's reluctantly seeking out some help for her family. The electricity has been turned off at her home. Her children all need clothing and educational books, toys and games. Mrs. H would be grateful for any assistance.

CASE 77 * M and J have adopted and raised several children over the years. The couple is currently caring for five more who had been placed in state custody because of neglect. M, 58, is a custodian at a local school and J, 60, runs a small at-home day care. To save money, the couple has had to move to a two-bedroom trailer while they search for a more spacious home to rent, but they are struggling to afford basic necessities for the children they've taken in. …
