RITENOUR SCHOOLS > District boosts summer offerings * Ritenour School District's Summer Academy in 2017 will newly feature a "math camp" as well as high school health education for first-time credit.

The Board of Education approved the program additions on Thursday night at the recommendation of Mike LaChance, assistant superintendent for curriculum and instruction.

The program costs will be similar to last summer and will be addressed in the district's 2017-18 budget.

Math camp, using materials developed by Stanford University, provides an enjoyable learning experience for students who need help with or want to advance in that subject, he said. Health education has been requested most by students looking to complete the credit at their own pace.

The Summer Academy serves more than 1,000 students, about one- sixth of the district, in various buildings. Classes will begin in late May or early June.

UNIVERSITY OF MISSOURI > Enrollment across system drops * Enrollment in the four-campus University of Missouri system increased 19 percent over a decade before losing ground after last year's protests at the Columbia campus and a drop in high school graduates in the state.

An end-of-year report shared Thursday at the University of Missouri Board of Curators meeting showed that enrollment across the system increased from 48,434 in fall 2005 to 57,785 in 2015.
