Construction Coming to Forest Park Likely to Affect Zoo, Art Museum Visitors

Look for road closures to start Wednesday and last until June in and around Forest Park in a project to rebuild parts of Government and Wells drives, which are especially popular routes to the St. Louis Zoo and St. Louis Art Museum.

That work will include closing the entrance from Skinker Boulevard onto Wells Drive, said Forest Park Forever, the nonprofit that works with St. Louis to provide park services.

The portion of Wells Drive to be closed is from Skinker to Tamm Avenue. Government Drive will be shut down from Skinker to the zoo.

Problems on those roads include potholes and a lack of designated crossings, the group said.

As well as rebuilt roads, the project will include new pedestrian crossings, 2.2 miles of new sidewalks, 29 on-street rain gardens, LED lighting, 153 new trees and 27 free on-street parking spaces. …
