MARSHALL BASKETBALL ; Elmore Named C-USA Player of the Week

With his back-to-back double-doubles last week, Marshall's Jon Elmore was named Player of the Week Monday by Conference USA. The 6- foot-3, 191-pound Charleston native scored 62 points, dished out 22 assists and nabbed 13 rebounds in two games, a 96-85 loss at Chattanooga and a 111-105 overtime win over Toledo.

He is the first Thundering Herd player to win the award since James Kelly did so in the week of Feb. 22.

"It's a big honor, Elmore said Monday. "We had some pretty big games last week and I think we're getting better and better. The sky is the limit for this team. We're playing up-tempo, spreading the floor and guys are getting open, which allows us to score a lot of points.

"Everyone is playing better and I credit that to the team.

Kelly also was the last Herd player to record back-to-back double- doubles, doing so in March. …
