Obamacare Isn't Perfect, but It Has Worked

Republican Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell recently confirmed that his caucus' first order of business in 2017 will be the repeal of Obamacare. This should come as no surprise - congressional Republicans have long desired to repeal the law, and with the election of Donald Trump, it seems they may get their wish.

In light of Mr. McConnell's stated agenda, a brief appraisal of Obamacare is in order. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the uninsured rate in America fell to 8.6 percent in the first three months of 2016, the lowest figure in U.S. history; prior to the law's enactment, the uninsured rate in America was 16 percent. The growth of both health spending by the government and monthly premiums for individuals and families has slowed to historically low rates. …
