Cards need to make another move

I hope the baseball Cardinals brass is not done with altering the team for 2017. I have several concerns.

First, the bullpen. Seung Hwan Oh is good but if he goes down there is no closer (Trevor Rosenthal apparently is not the answer, for physical or mental reasons). Second, Jhonny Peralta has a no- trade clause but they should buy that out and package him with Matt Adams and others or pursue Edwin Encarnacion as a free agent. Fowler is a good addition (if Matt Carpenter doesn't whine about not leading off), but why wasn't Aroldis Chapman or Kenley Jansen pursued as a closer? I believe they both signed for far less ($20 million less) than Fowler got, with the same number of years.

Also, I've heard rumblings about Rosenthal being a starter this year. That's absurd, with Alex Reyes being on an innings limit. You can't have two starters in the rotation in the same boat when crunch time comes at season's end.

Bill DeWitt every year receives obscene amounts on money from the 3.3 million or so fans who pour through the gates, and it's time the Cards open up the wallet one more time if there's any chance to catch the Cubs. Adding Fowler doesn't change the fact that third base is very weak and we still have plodders such as Peralta, Adams and Jedd Gyorko. Just Fowler isn't enough. Hopefully, one more big move is to come or it's 2016 all over again.

Anderson deserves more time

Sorry, Mr. Hochman, but you're way off base ("Anderson must go at MU barring a big run in SEC," Post-Dispatch, Feb. 11). Kim Anderson inherited a huge mess at Mizzou, thanks to a totally inept AD and former coach Frank Haith. To be fair, Anderson needs two more years.

He can overcome sanctions (not of his making). He is still dealing with the aftermath of quitters and second-tier players, also not of his making. …
