Rivers Receding after Rain Greene County Hit Hardest by Flooding; Mon Wharf Closed Today

Some communities in southwestern Pennsylvania spent Monday cleaning up from weekend flooding, and the Mon Wharf will remain closed today.

Waynesburg and Rogersville in Greene County were among the hardest hit, according to Gregory Leathers, director of Greene County's Emergency Management Agency. Mr. Leathers said workers from his office and from the state Emergency Management Agency were assessing damages Monday.

The Red Cross said it helped at least 15 people who had to evacuate their homes in Waynesburg.

It's unclear how much rain fell in those areas. The National Weather Service in Moon said it doesn't keep rainfall totals there; its best estimates - based off radar -are that 2.5 inches of rain fell from Friday through Sunday morning.

Rain caused water levels to rise on the Monongahela, Youghiogheny and Cheat rivers. …
