AROUND THE STATE ; Improvements in State Legal Climate Recognized Judicial Hellhole List Skips W.Va.Again, but There Is Still More to Do

After years of topping the national Judicial Hellhole list, West Virginia has now received a more favorable rating from business defense lawyers for a second year in a row. Since 2002, the American Tort Reform Foundation has published the report, which highlights states and local areas that the organization contends offer an unlevel legal playing field for business.

Clearly, the group represents only one side of the issue, but it is an important side, because the report can influence how businesses nationally view investing in West Virginia.

In the report issued this week, West Virginia is once again on the groups watchlist, but painted in a more favorable light.

Once perennial Judicial Hellhole West Virginia this year makes what optimists hope will be its last appearance in this report for many years to come, if not forever, the report reads. …
