Failed Escape Suspect Jumps from Second-Story Window in Attempt to Evade Police

Pittsburgh police Thursday arrested a shooting suspect who tried to escape by jumping from a second-story window and running from officers.

Jerrell Whitlock, 30, who has addresses in Carrick and the South Side Flats, is accused of shooting a woman Oct. 18 outside the SR Market on Second Avenue in Hazelwood.

Police said surveillance footage showed two women fighting outside the store when a man identified as Whitlock pulled a pistol and shot one of the women. Police said he fired multiple times, striking the woman at least once in a leg.

Detectives identified Whitlock on the surveillance video because they knew him from past encounters, according to a criminal complaint.

About 6:15 p.m. Thursday, an anonymous caller to 911 said Whitlock was at an apartment in the 100 block of South 23rd Street in the South Side Flats. …
