I am one of the nearly 1 million Pennsylvanians benefiting from the Affordable Care Act. Having my father pass on unexpectedly when I was 19 made me have to mature quickly and make major life-impacting decisions. Being a young adult with a pre-existing condition made it difficult to locate and establish health coverage.

Prior to the ACA, the majority of insurance policies had no-pre-existing condition clauses. Therefore, the financial costs would be extremely high with skyrocketing premiums and penalties - all of which would make living independently a much greater challenge for me than it already was.

Had it not been for the enactment of the Affordable Care Act in 2010, I would be burdened by worry about the possibility of being denied health care coverage or having to figure out how to afford health care due to the exorbitant premiums incurred by having a pre-existing condition. …
