A man drove a pickup through a Subway restaurant in Alton on Monday, but none of its employees were seriously injured, its manager said.

Workers said it appeared to be intentional.

Early Monday afternoon, Alton fire personnel were washing away blood, sweeping hundreds of trinket-sized pieces of glass and clearing away metal window frames that had been contorted by the impact of the truck.

The truck had rammed through the restaurant's brick wall and made it to the back of the restaurant before police detained the driver, said manager Maggie Hinklan, who was in the restaurant when the incident happened.

She also said the driver tried to resist arrest, and he was eventually taken to a hospital. Officers at the scene in the aftermath said they were not authorized to speak to reporters, and a spokesperson for the department could not be reached Monday. …
