CHOLERA ARRIVES

Thirty passengers and crew infected with cholera arrive in St. Louis via steamboat, quickly spreading the disease. In all, the epidemic claimed 7 percent of the population in St. Louis.

BOOKS NEEDED

The Jewish Community Center needs donations of books for its Winter Sale. Books can be dropped off at the JCC Arts & Education Building, 2 Millstone Campus Drive in Creve Coeur, Monday through Friday from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Books need to be in good condition and can be in any category. No encyclopedias or textbooks older than five years will be accepted.

Volunteers are also needed on Tuesdays or Thursdays from 9 a.m. to noon at the Epstein Hebrew Academy, 1138 Warson Road, to help sort the books for the sale. …
