Gas Prices Flattening as Year-End Approaches

Gas prices in the Bradenton-Sarasota-Venice market are down from a week ago, showing that despite demand from holiday travelers the recent spike in prices resulting from OPEC's move to cut production might have finally ebbed.

The average price for a gallon of regular in this region was $2.282 on Tuesday, up slightly from $2.278 the previous day but down from $2.291 a week ago, according to AAA data.

There are an estimated 93.6 million Americans hitting the road from just before Christmas to after New Year's Day, according to AAA.

"Gas prices haven't moved in about 10 days, because oil prices have stabilized and the southeastern states are well supplied with gasoline," AAA spokesman Mark Jenkins said. "Motorists should expect more of the same through the new year unless oil prices rise this week."

Gas prices on Christmas Day were the highest in two years. The average price was $2.32 in Florida, or about 31 cents higher than last year on Christmas. …
