Oath-Taking Ushers in New Era of St. Louis County Governance

CLAYTON * The first day of 2017 ushered in a new era of St. Louis County governance as two new County Council members one a former state legislator, the other a political newcomer were sworn in Sunday before family and friends in the council chambers.

Democrat Rochelle Walton-Gray ended an eight-year stint as a state representative on New Year's Eve and will represent constituents in a district covering a portion of north St. Louis County.

Attorney Ernie Trakas, a Republican, is now serving residents of south St. Louis County.

The newcomers have the potential to reshape the dynamic of a council that over the past two years has mostly bent to the will of County Executive Steve Stenger.

Also sworn in Sunday was Councilman Sam Page, a Democrat re- elected to the 2nd District seat representing communities in the northwest portion of the county. …
