Regarding Jim Roddey's Dec. 18 Forum commentary ("Keep Pittsburgh's Rivers Open for Business: New Zoning Regulations Should Balance Recreational and Industrial Uses of Our Waterways"): I'm always glad to see an article supporting the Pittsburgh rivers. Our city's rivers aren't in the news very often, and I was thrilled to read Mr. Roddey's piece.

In 1998, our group began a riverfront park project in Sewickley Borough. Little did we know this project would take 15 years to complete! The park is about 2 acres along the Ohio River. When Mr. Roddey was Allegheny County's chief executive, he toured several river towns, including Sewickley. He visited our park, which incorporates the purpose of the IPOD (interim planning overlay district), which states,"Maintain an open-space area with the potential for public access along the banks of the rivers; and 2) improve the scenic quality of the city's riverfronts. …
