WBTT Dancer Named a National YoungArts Finalist

DERRIC GOBOURNE

Derric Gobourne, who has been dancing up a storm for the last few years at the Westcoast Black Theatre Troupe -- including the holiday season production of "Black Nativity" -- has been named a National YoungArts Finalist.

Nearly 700 young artists from around the country are selected for the program, but Gobourne is one 166 finalists. He will be participating in the 36th annual national YoungAts Week in Miami Jan. 8-15, an intensive, all-inclusive program of master classes with artists across numerous disciplines. He is a finalist in dance/ hip hop. He will have a chance to receive cash prizes of up to $10,000, opportunities to participate in YoungArts programs nationwide and to engage with mentors about a future performance career.

Gobourne, a 17-year-old Manatee High School senior, made his debut at the Westcoast Black Theatre Troupe as Little Stevie Wonder in 2014 in "Best of Stevie Wonder" and has been seen dancing in several shows since. …
