St. Albans Council Takes Up Regulations for Fireworks

A previously discussed ordinance to regulate fireworks in St. Albans was presented to City Council on Tuesday night. The first reading of the ordinance, which will regulate sale, possession, discharge, actions and the penalties for breaking the new laws, passed by unanimous voice vote.

Mayor Dick Callaway recommended the appointment of Ward 9 Councilman Garry Pennington to the Housing Authority Board with a term to expire on June 30, 2017.

Council approved the appointment by unanimous voice vote.

Pennington will replace Ward 3 Councilman Ron Colby.

In order to finance the city's vehicle package, City Clerk Barb Hughes presented an ordinance to council for first reading.

The ordinance would authorize purchasing certain equipment from Country Road Leasing for city garbage trucks and police cruisers. The first reading of the ordinance passed by unanimous voice vote.

Ward 2 Councilman Jason Philabaun presented the Finance Committee report and recommendations to council and made a motion for their approval. …
