Haledon School Board Still Short a Member

HALEDON - The school board is still short one member following Tuesday's reorganization meeting where an incumbent and two newcomers were sworn in.

November's uncontested election returned the board's vice president, Joyce Smith, to her seat and added newcomers John Kaslander and Kathleen Gonzales. Kaslander and Gonzales ran to replace board members Maria Fusco and Crystal Rolon when their terms expired.

The reorganization brought no changes in leadership, with Dan Batelli, a former councilman, returning to the presidency, a position he held last year, and Smith continuing as vice president. Yet the post-election resignation of Anthony LaTona, accepted at the board's December meeting, has left a new vacancy. According to Business Administrator/Board Secretary John Serapiglia, LaTona cited the demands of his work schedule leaving little time for board activity. …
