Peters Resident Honored as He Turns 102

World War I was raging when the Rev. Joseph Rodgers was born.

In his 102 years of life, he has seen both triumph and tragedy: the Great Depression, Pearl Harbor, school desegregation, first human in space, and the John F. Kennedy and Martin Luther King assassinations, to name a few.

Rev. Rodgers, who will turn 102 on Wednesday, was honored with the key to Peters Township this week.

"I feel a great sense of honor in the sharing of a happy occasion with my family and friends," the soft-spoken Rev. Rodgers, who was born in 1915, said before receiving the key at Tuesday's council meeting.

He was pastor of Center Presbyterian Church in Peters from 1951 until 1979 and is currently pastor emeritus at the church. …
