Duquesne University Swimmers in Terminal When Attack Took Place

Three members of the Duquesne University women's swimming team were stranded for hours Friday inside the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport after a gunman opened fire in a baggage claim area.

The swimmers were flying out after participating in the Orange Bowl Swim Classic in Key Largo, Fla., earlier in the week. The Duquesne travel party numbered roughly 30, according to athletic director Dave Harper. Students were flying to multiple destinations, as the school is still on winter break.

The three who were stranded were in Terminal 2, where the shootings occurred. One young woman was close enough that she and those around her dove for cover, Mr. Harper said.
