Springlike Rains Bring Flooding Mon Wharf Closed; Thursday's Temperature 1 Degree Shy of Record

The rainy weather and near-record high temperature in Pittsburgh on Thursday made a mid-January day seem more like mid-April.

And while April showers bring May flowers, January showers might flood the Mon Wharf.

The Pittsburgh Parking Authority announced the Mon Wharf will be closed today after the National Weather Service issued a flood advisory for the area effective until Sunday afternoon.

Much of the area saw more than an inch of rain Thursday, with some places north of the city receiving more than 2 inches. That water will flow down the Allegheny River toward the Point, said Tom Green, meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Pittsburgh.

That means water levels in the Ohio River could reach 18 feet - the point when the Mon Wharf floods - by this morning. …
