Warming the Cases Pitt Students Bringing Fresh Eyes to Old Crimes

When talented and enthusiastic college students put their heads together, there's no telling what might happen. They might even solve a long-cold murder case.

That is the goal of the Students Conquering Cold Cases Club at the University of Pittsburgh. With former city police Cmdr. Ron Freeman as their sponsor, the students are checking out new angles in a handful of local cases as well as the infamous 1960s Zodiac killings in California.

As the Post-Gazette's Michael A. Fuoco reported, the participants plan careers in law, police work or similar fields and have to meet certain other criteria to join the club, which is officially recognized by Pitt.
