FPL Plans 4 More Solar Centers This Year

JUNO BEACH -- Florida Power & Light Co. -- the primary power provider in Manatee, Sarasota and Charlotte counties and a supporter of a measure soundly defeated by voters in November that the power companies argued would safeguard access to solar power -- says it plans to build four more solar energy centers in 2017.

The Juno Beach-based company says it officially connected three new 74.5-megawatt solar power plants to the energy grid on Dec. 31.

That includes the FPL Manatee Solar Energy Center, near the company's large plant in Parrish and including 338,000 solar panels on 762 acres, or the equivalent of nearly 600 football fields. The newly connected projects also included the FPL Babcock Ranch Solar Energy Center, on the site of the 18,000-acre master-planned community in southeastern Charlotte County of the same name. …
