Wrestling Tournament Honors Fallen Waldwick Marine

WALDWICK - Six high school wrestling teams will honor the memory of U.S. Marine Staff Sgt. Joseph D'Augustine on Saturday by taking part in a sport he loved while raising money to support those who have served their country as he did.

"It's another way of keeping his memory alive in town," his father, Tony D'Augustine, said of Saturday's charity wrestling tournament, which will be at Waldwick High School.

Joseph D'Augustine was killed in March 2012 while working as a member of an explosive ordnance disposal unit in Afghanistan. He was 29.

"Joey," as his father fondly calls him, was a wrestler and football player for Waldwick High School.

The former director for Waldwick and Midland Park's recreational wrestling program, Valerie Dunnigan, said she started the tournament after Joseph D'Augustine was killed to honor his memory. …
