Fighters Have 'Rowdy' Weekend

Article excerpt

The 21st annual Rough N Rowdy Brawl at the Charleston Civic Center last weekend featured about 80 area fighters ready to brawl. This year, the fighting competition allowed kickboxing. "Nothing compares to it, said Chris Smith, the event promoter. "That's why the Charleston Rough N Rowdy is the biggest fan-attended fighting event in West Virginia. The Elk River Boxing Club in Clendenin had several fighters who made it into the finals, including Tyler Harper of Charleston, who won the middleweight division. William Blake Whittington won the 180 MMA title.

About a dozen women also signed up, according to Smith. "More bantamweight and lightweight girls are getting in shape and fighting. That's the trend, Smith said.
