The University of Charleston women's basketball team got out to a good start and was able to pick up a 79-65 victory over visiting West Virginia State Thursday night in Mountain East Conference play. UC outscored the Yellow Jackets 29-14 in the second quarter. The Golden Eagles shot 80 percent during that stretch while limiting WVSU to making just four of its 16 attempts.

Charleston (6-11, 5-6 MEC) got double-doubles from freshman Anna Hayton, who finished with 11 points and 13 rebounds, and Darian Apperson, who tallied 11 points with 10 boards. Abby Watson also scored 14 points for the Golden Eagles.
