Five Arrested in Shooting at Paterson Party

PATERSON - A shooting during a party on lower Main Street over the weekend resulted in the arrests of five men on gun charges - including one from Newark who also was charged with attempted murder, police said.

The men came from five cities, including Clifton, Passaic and Lodi, police said.

A 23-year-old Paterson man suffered a graze wound to the head, but no one else was seriously injured, Paterson Police Director Jerry Speziale said.

Authorities said that between 20 and 25 people were at the event at a building between Broadway and Memorial Drive when a fight broke out about 4 a.m. Saturday and gunfire followed. Investigators are still trying to determine whether the gathering was a private party or something like an after-hours club, police said.

Capt. Patrick Murray said police seized multiple guns at the scene, but he declined to say exactly how many and whether all of them were loaded. …
