A Richland woman died Wednesday in her apartment from a suspected heroin overdose, leaving her 3-year-old son alone until police found him.

The woman was identified as Lauren Wilson, 34, of the Thomas Village apartments in the 5600 block of Community Center Drive.

Her mother called police Wednesday afternoon because she was unable to contact her daughter by phone, Northern Regional Police Chief T. Robert Amann said Thursday.

"When we went in we found the victim deceased from an apparent heroin overdose and the 3-year-old little boy in the apartment," the chief said.

The child appeared to be well cared for, Chief Amann said. The boy was turned over to his grandparents. Police contacted the Allegheny County Office of Children, Youth and Families.

Ms. Wilson's cause and manner of death remain pending at the county medical examiner's office. …
