Bellevue Man Convicted in Fatal North Side Shooting

A Bellevue man charged in a shooting in 2015 on the North Side was convicted Friday of third-degree murder in a non-jury trial.

Allegheny County Common Pleas Judge Philip A. Ignelzi also found Rashawn Austin, 26, guilty of two firearms violations in connection with the death of Derrick Owens.

He is scheduled to be sentenced April 18.

"I'm very disappointed with the verdict," Austin's attorney, Ralph Karsh, said. "We thought it was clear that the commonwealth had not met their burden."

Police said Mr. Owens, 30, of the city's Manchester neighborhood, was shot April 24, 2015, while standing outside his vehicle, which was parked in the 1300 block of Columbus Avenue. He fell back into the vehicle and was found by police in the driver's seat.
