BRIDGE DEDICATION

The MacArthur Bridge, originally called the Municipal Bridge or "free bridge," is officially dedicated. Construction began in 1907, and it cost more than $10 million to complete.

HEADS UP

SOCIAL JUSTICE WEEK

Prominent leaders from Missouri and Illinois will be featured speakers during Social Justice Week at St. Louis Community College at Forest Park. All events, slated daily from Monday through Friday, are free and open to the public. The campus is at 5600 Oakland Avenue.

The highlight of the weeklong events is an observation of the 100-year mark of the devastation resulting from the East St. Louis riots. It is slated for 7 p.m. Monday in the Mildred E. Bastian Center for the Performing Arts. The program will feature a historical perspective, art exhibits and musical selections to heighten public awareness and to honor the ancestors who died and survived the 1917 pogrom. Two members of the 1917 Centennial Commission will be the featured speakers. …
