1963 Chancellor Edward Litchfield of the University of Pittsburgh said that the Pirates baseball team may remain at Forbes Field, now owned by Pitt.

1968 North Korea seized the Navy intelligence ship USS Pueblo, charging its crew with being on a spying mission. (The crew was released 11 months later.)

1999 The Bost Building was recognized as a National Landmark for its role as the steelworkers' headquarters during the Homestead Strike. August R. Carlino, the executive director of the Steel Industry Heritage Corporation, which owned the Bost Building, was planning a $4 million renovation.
