Oakland Will Borrow $1.3 Million for Public Library Renovations

OAKLAND -- The Borough Council has approved the final stage of renovation for the town's public library and ordered the drafting of a bond ordinance for the $1.3 million project.

The ordinance is expected to be introduced in January, according to Borough Administrator Richard Kunze.

The council received 15 bids for the project in November, but the lowest bidder withdrew. Daskal LLC of Garfield, which offered to do the job for $1.3 million, was the second lowest bidder. Pending further review, they are expected to be awarded the contract, according to Kunze.

Library Director Peter Havel said he expects work to begin in March.

"It will change the entire organization from top to bottom," said Havel. "It will be a completely different experience for our members. …
