A continuing series of collaborations between Wigle Whiskey and local brewers has resulted in a most interesting whiskey that will be released at a party in the Strip District on Friday.

The hootch was developed with the brewers at Four Seasons Brewery in Latrobe, who used malts and yeast to come up with a Belgian-style mash, to which they added local maple syrup. The resulting whiskey, which was aged at the distillery for two years, is named Old Sap.

According to Wigle, "The flavor is sweet and floral, with a luxurious silky mouth feel from the addition of the maple syrup adjunct."

You can get a taste at the release party from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday. The $15 admission gets you an Old Sap cocktail, Four Seasons beer and samplings of spirits as well as maple syrup from Philson's Bushel and a Peck Farm in Mercer. …
