WALDWICK - Family law attorney Helene Herbert has been sworn in as the borough's new municipal court judge. Herbert takes over for John O'Dwyer, who had served in the position for five years before his recent appointment as a state Superior Court judge.

She will receive an annual salary of $15,960. Herbert is a partner at the law firm Herbert & Weiss, which has offices in Edgewater and Moonachie. She is a northern New Jersey native, earning her bachelor's degree at William Paterson College of New Jersey, now William Paterson University, and her law degree at the City University of New York.

Herbert was sworn in by O'Dwyer at a Borough Council meeting last week. Mayor Thomas Giordano said he was impressed by Herbert's lengthy resume and the fact that she's "done a lot for other people," in terms of volunteering. …
