Janet Buckland was born January 14, 1923 to Louis and Rose Alma Thibault in Haverhill, Massachusetts. She was one of nine children born of proud French-Canadian descent. Surrounded by her family, she died peacefully on January 3, 2017 of a hemorrhagic stroke at the Tidewell Hospice House in Venice, Florida. Janet was a career nurse working in various settings and specialties. She began her service during World War II as a young United States Nurse Cadet. After the war, she spent the next twenty years traveling as a military wife before relocating to Topeka, Kansas. There she worked at both the Menninger Foundation and the VA Medical Center. Upon retiring from the VA in 1985, she moved to Point Barrow and joined the Public Health Services to care for the indigenous people of northern most Alaska. …
