Menchinger, Edwin Joseph

November 21, 1925 - January 23, 2017

Ed was born on his family's farm in Sodus, Michigan to Adolph and Helen Menchinger. He served his country in the Army during World War II as an ambulance driver in Germany. After his service he returned to his home in Michigan where he and his wife, Clara enjoyed many years as fruit growers in Sodus and Berrien Center. During his years there he helped to found The Berrien County Youth Fair.

In 1973 he moved his family to Sarasota, Florida. He enjoyed coaching, umpiring and serving on the board of Miss Sarasota Softball. He also loved playing ball himself and did so well into his eighties in Senior Softball. Ed was a member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ.

He was preceded in death by his sisters, Dorothy Zeilke, Mildred Pfeifer, Marion Menchinger, and Beverly Harner and his son, Larry Menchinger. …
