SARASOTA COUNTY

SARASOTA -- Sarasota County is set to begin construction on a new mid-county office for tax collection, vehicle registration and driver's license services.

The new office will be built at 6100 Sawyer Loop Road, just off Clark Road, and is expected to be completed in spring 2018, according to a news release from the county. A groundbreaking ceremony was held Thursday.

It will replace and consolidate the driver's license office on Pompano Avenue near Robarts Arena and the office just south of Westfield Sarasota Square on U.S. 41, both of which will close, Tax Collector Barbara Ford-Coates said. The move will help reduce management and overhead costs while co-locating

services just a few minutes drive away from their current offices, she added.

The new nearly six-acre site will include a roughly 10,000- square-foot office with space for customers to make tax payments and for issuing driver's licenses, vehicle titles and registrations.

The property also will include a road course for driver's license testing, an after-hours payment dropbox and a drive-through for certain services. …
