America is a nation made of immigrants

The most patriotic (not to be confused with nationalistic or jingoistic) people I know are immigrants. They deeply appreciate the opportunities this country gives them, even if, in some cases, the fallout from our country's policies and actions are what drove them here in the first place.

They also have appreciated the freedom to practice their religion without persecution, which is so central to the foundation of our nation.

Unless you are an indigenous person of Turtle Island (North America), or a recent immigrant to the United States of America, you are a descendant of immigrants.

Some of our ancestors immigrated of their own free will. Some came as refugees because they faced such dire circumstances that they had to leave their homeland. …
