Run-Dmc Sues Wal-Mart, Amazon for $50 Million

The rap group Run-DMC is suing Wal-Mart, Amazon and other retailers, alleging the retailers sold products bearing the group's name without permission.

The lawsuit was filed in the Southern District of New York on Thursday. One of the founders of the group, Wayne resident Darryl McDaniels, is listed as the plaintiff in the lawsuit.

The complaint claims the retailers are "advertising, selling, manufacturing, promoting and distributing" glasses, hats, T-shirts, patches and wallets, among other items, with the rap group's trademarked name on them. The lawsuit alleges that by doing so, the retailers are erroneously implying that the group endorsed the merchandise and that the retailers have diluted and harmed the Run- DMC brand.

Examples include old-school black-frame glasses often worn by McDaniels, the lawsuit claimed. …
